Walt
Eddy: Tax season is approaching. It
always is. It’s one of life’s certainties, as Benjamin Franklin put it.
Taxes—along with most other things, it seems—just keep getting more and more
complicated. A growing number of writers, artists, and craftsmen desire to
derive all or part of their income from “expression activities” like
writing, performing, or another arts or crafts. These people have special
requirements when it comes to understanding how federal taxes apply to
them.
Walt
provides “freelancers of expression” with information necessary to get the
most out of their special taxation situations, from how to determine if
their activity is “for profit,” to record keeping, to filing, to appealing
adverse determinations. Walt is an Enrolled Agent who represents taxpayers
during the mediation and appellate process. He worked for the IRS for
thirty-four years as a Tax Auditor, an Appeals Officer, and a manager in the
Appeals Division.
Walt can
speak on how federal taxation impacts writers. Contact him at wreddy848@msn.com.

We Can Learn About Writing From Cowboy Poets: Remarkable use of

literary techniques, word choice and usage, use of sound, and structure
are demonstrated in inspiring examples. The techniques featured are
applicable to all types of writing.
-
Writing the Right Word: The first hallmark of outstanding writing is
choosing and using outstanding words. See how poets—from a variety of
traditions, eras, and forms—utilize words and sounds to create
unforgettable and inspiring phrases, lines, sentences, and stories.
Besides effective use of individual words, the examples reveal inspired
use of language and numerous literary techniques that writers of all
kinds can emulate.

Herding the Words Through a Poem: A straight line is seldom the best
way to get from point A to point B. Using poems by various writers as
examples, a variety of structures and storytelling devices are
demonstrated. Each poem is represented as a graph, or line, to
visualize its structure and plot techniques. The techniques demonstrated
